Birding Jamaica

About this tour

BIRDING JAMAICA BLUE MOUNTAINS, COCKPIT COUNTRY & CARIBBEAN COAST BESPOKE TOURS

Enjoy one of the best island destinations in the world for birding - Jamaica. Explore the stunningly beautiful Blue Mountains, the pristine and exotic Cockpit Country, and the north coastal region, to look for endemic species such as Jamaican todies, orioles and vireos; yellow- and black-billed parrots; and the beautiful quail dove. Relish the renowned Rocklands Bird Sanctuary, where the spectacular red-billed streamertail feeds from the hand.

Jamaica has more endemics (25 species and 21 subspecies) than any other island in the Caribbean and offers exceptional birding. In all, we have more than 305 species including a large number of winter visitors, transients and vagrants that can be observed depending on the season. In winter, through migration, we nearly double the number of species in Jamaica. These migrants can arrive in August and remain here until May. Birding in Jamaica is enhanced by the outstanding beauty of many of the birds, and the unique richness and variety of tropical landscape, from mountains to seacoast, rich woodland, dry scrubland, rivers and valleys.

We pride ourselves on offering the best range of accommodations (charming Cottage to magnificent Villa) accessible to Jamaica’s prime birding habitats, wonderful guides, reliable transportation, access to interesting people and places, great food, and responsibility.
